On Saturday morning, the Chicago Bulls invited G John Lucas to their training camp, with a partially guaranteed one-year contract.
Lucas played for the Rockets when Tom Thibodeau was the assistant, but last season, he played in China for the Shanghai Sharks. He was added to the Bulls summer league roster, and he really impressed Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau. Coach Thibodeau described Lucas as an "ideal" choice to serve as a back up point guard behind Derrick Rose and C.J. Watson.
He may not be signed until training camp nears later this month, but sources believe that the Bulls do expect him to be on their opening night roster. Lucas' contract becomes fully guaranteed if he can remain on the roster past January 10.
The Bulls currently have 12 players on their roster, not including Lucas, and still want to add more depth. According to sources close to the situation, the Bulls are still interested in Portland's G/F Rudy Fernandez. A first round pick is being offered by the Bulls, but the Blazers are looking for a little more in return.
