Despite the presence of 6'8" LSU signee P Jalen Courtney, favored defending State Champion Jackson Provine lost the semi final to the winningest program in the history of the State of Mississippi, Jackson Lanier 113-110 in double OT.
I watched what may be the best high school game I ever witnessed in person on Thursday in the semi final of the Jackson, Mississippi Public School Pepsi Tournament. In a 113-110 double OT win, underdog Jackson Lanier defeated Jackson Provine in front of a packed house of 1400 people at NOON! Unreal. All 5 starters fouled out on each team but there was still plenty of firepower left on the floor. Provine lost Jalen Courtney (LSU) and Lanier lost Jordan Cornelius (Jacksonville State) in the physical battle played at Warp Factor 5. 2011 6th man, G Greg "Jet" Lee was the difference down the stretch.
Scotlandville defeated Glen Oaks in the East baton Rouge Parrish Championship. They were led by J.J. Thomas (Stephen F. Austin). Glen Oaks saw 20 plus per game from Texas D-1 Ambassador and Oklahoma State signee Brian Williams.
Kerrville Tivy wins their own tournament in a round roubin championship format with wins over Big Spring and Cedar Park. Texas D-1 Ambassador 2010 CG Jonathan Perry was MVP.
San Antonio Wagner wins the Sherman Tournament with a double OT win over host Sherman 94-91. They were led by Jordan Clarkson's 28 points.
Austin Akins beat Bryan pretty soundly in the chhampionship game of the Austin Lanier Vikings Tournament. 2010 W Kevin McFarlane had 25 for Akins. 2012 phenom J. Mychal Reese had 30 in the loss for Bryan.
Pflugerville avenged a loss a couple of weeks ago at Converse Judson by taking down the Rockets in the championship of the Round Rock Classic. 2011 G Deon Mitchell was a standout for the Panthers.
Austin Westlake faltered for the first time this season as they had a 14 point lead in the 4th v. Long Beach Poly(CA), only to lose it by committing a foul with 9 seconds left and the Poly player sinking all three free throws for the comeback win.
Austin Bowie defeated Killeen Harker Heights to win the MT Rice Tournament.
