Earlier this morning I checked in with Texas D1 Ambassador & Pflugerville Hendrickson star, Jalen Washington to get an update on his recruiting mindset.  He'd visited Mount St. Mary's in Maryland last weekend with his Mom & had given me a glowing report on the campus, academics, basketball & his relationship with the coaching staff.  He wanted to take a few days to weigh the opportunity.  He's done that and has decided to close out his recruitment & verbally commit.  He's headed to Mount St. Mary's who plays Division One basketball in the Northeast Conference.

Jalen felt extremely comfortable with Coach Burke, who came over from Georgetown.  Big props have to also go to Assistant Coach Matt Henry who recruited Jalen relentlessly and made it clear to the D1 Ambassadors Family that he was Mount St. Mary's top recruiting target.  As a courtesy, the MSM coaching staff asked me to hold the announcement until this morning so their admissions admin didn't hear it second hand. Washington becomes the 12th member of the D1 Nation to give his verbal commitment.  With signing day less than 2 weeks away, it's already a record haul of verbals for the D1 Ambassadors in the early period.  A dozen!

Washington is a long and lean player who has above average perimeter potential to go along with his length. He is tough on the glass as his quick leaping ability allows him to play much bigger on the boards.  My biggest criticism of him a the moment is that he doesn't always assert himself, but on the flip side he's a very unselfish player.  His upside is tremendous.  He's more of a wing at the moment, but with continued hard work on his handles could be a very good off guard. He'll be a big factor in the Northeast Conference before it's all said and done. Congratulations to Jalen & His Mom, Ms. Sophia DeDominico-Coach Max Ivany
