There are lots of great things about Thanksgiving Week.  Turkey, Family & Friends top the list.  Of course, here in Texas it's all about the football.  Big props to a couple of our D1 ballers who are taking their squads deep into the football playoffs. (Bastrop's Josiah Monroe & Cedar Park's Dylan Cox)  However, tonight it's about the Roundball.  Monday Night Basketball.  Two of the Area's top 5A squads are getting after it.  The home team, Akins Eagles vs. the Pflugerville Panthers.  Last year they were district foes, this year they're in a different alignment so this one's for bragging rights
Akins' Malcolm Canada (l) & Yolonzo Moore (r) nabbed bragging rights with big time games.

This was a game of numbers...crazy numbers.  How many times do you see a 5A game where each team scores 100 plus points?  We had a game that lasted 40 minutes, because of the extra stanza.  There were a total of 61 free throws attempted.  Four players had 24 or more points.  There were 3 Division One signees on the floor (Pflugerville's Deon Mitchell-Northern Iowa, Akins' Yolonzo Moore-Hartford & Akins' Malcolm Canada-Central Arkansas).

Where do I start with this one?   Pflugerville had a 10 point lead early in the 4th quarter & a 5 point lead in OT, but Akins wouldn't quit.  When the dust settled, Akins hit the buzzer beater by Yolonzo Moore from 15 feet to turn out the lights.

For Pflugerville, Deon Mitchell had 24 points & 6 assists while their best player on this night was 2011 W Cameron Blue who dropped 29 points & 10 rebounds.  However, tonight the marathon was won by the Akins duo of Malcolm Canada who scored 34 points, 5 rebounds & 4 assists & Yolonzo Moore 36 points, 4 rebounds & 3 assists. When Canada fouled out in the first 30 seconds of OT, Moore stepped up with 13 of the 15 Akins' points in OT.  He was my player of the game.

For Pflugerville, 2013 PG T.J. Williams continues to grow his game and had 6 points & 4 assists including two of the prettier dimes of the night. Storm Woods added 14, Darrian Dempsey had 10 as did Jordan Major.  For Akins, SG P.J. Rivera hit all four of his three pointers in the 2nd quarter finishing with 16 points.  Sophomore Lionel Hollins battled all night and had 6 rebounds. Bottom line....what a game!
