D-1 Nation had a chance to catch up with District 17 4A champions & State Semi Finalist the Lady Cardinals of Del Valle High School. With this years realignment, Del Valle will now compete in District 15 5A with Akins, Austin High, Westlake, Anderson, and Bowie. I talked with head coach Tawni Angel  to get her take on  the realignment, and she says"were really excited, it gives us more of a challenge and that's what we like".

Coach Angel has done a tremendous job with the program at Del Valle. Retired jerseys hanging in the gym highlight the accomplishments of former players Beverly Williams, Asha Hill, Angela Tisdale, with Shanay Washington playing at Baylor. Coach Angels philosophy is simple, continue to work hard and you can accomplish great things.

2011 F 6'0 Summer Postell and 2011 F 5'11 Monique Mc Elveen will be key for the Cardinals this season. The senior duo will not only need to compete at a higher level, but they will also need to be effective leaders on and off the court to help their team be successful. The two seniors can really dominate the paint. They both have nice size with a great skill set.

With Joslinn Douglas now playing at Blinn Junior College, 2011 G 5'6 Jametria Green will be running the point for the Cardinals. Green gain tons of experience last season with their run to the State tournament. Jametria has a high basketball IQ, and don't mind shooting the rock. For Del valle to be successful this season, green will have to be very aggressive offensively, and be able to defend some of the quicker guards in the district.

With the big three returning to Del Valle, and the excellent program that Coach Angel runs. I am picking Del Valle to win District 15 5A.

Good luck this season
